The wood is beautiful. I put a varnish on them since I live near the ocean (man'o'war is great) and I love how it turned out. Be aware that there is a not insignificant amount of assembly involved, but its really really worth it and thats what it takes to ship the set in a cost effective way.

It was very well packaged. So well packaged, that it took more time to unpack the chairs than it did to assemble them. Allow 20 minutes or so to assemble the table; about 20 minutes for the first chair and then 10 minutes for each subsequent chair.
